To the Editor:

My name is Cindy Penkoff and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as I seek your support this coming November as a District 2 Town Council Representative.

I have been a Trumbull resident for the last 12 years. I am married to Jeff, who is a lifelong Trumbull resident and graduate of the Trumbull School system. Our 15 year-old son currently attends Trumbull High School and The Trumbull Agri-Science School. Jeffrey has been a part of the Trumbull school system since he was 3 years-old when he attended what was then known as the Trumbull Pre-School which was housed in a hallway at Madison Middle School. Jeffrey was one of their special needs students being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Spastic Diplegia to be exact, shortly after he was born.

I am a parent, an engaged taxpayer, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker, a Board of Finance Alternate and the oldest of 11 children. I believe in fiscal responsibility and I don’t believe that paying more for something makes it better; it just makes it more expensive.

Running for office in our town I have a clear focus: the families of Trumbull and what is best for our town as a whole. I also have a firm belief in my purpose; I believe it is my job to leave this space a better place for our future and to support what we have built in our past. I believe in and support the strong economic, education and infrastructure growth the Herbst Team has put into place over the last four years and want to continue in that support of our taxpayers and town on a little larger scale. The Town Council will allow me to continue to do so. I loved being on the Board Of Finance and its time to take that knowledge and carry it forward.

After speaking to hundreds of residents over the last four years, I am more convinced than ever that I am the right person for this job.

Being the parent of a special needs student gives me a keen perspective on our education system; not only how it provides for the children, but how it provides regardless of the scope of their needs. Sitting on the Board of Finance I also have an understanding of the financial impact of not only those obligations but the many other obligations it takes to keep Trumbull being Trumbull, as it grows and moves forward. There have been many needed accomplishments over the last four years with more on the way; a path The Herbst Team not only paved but has the experience to see through. I have been proud to be a part of that and look forward to continuing that journey.
