Letter: Sutherland is passionate about making changes

To the Editor:

I am writing today in support of Doug Sutherland for State Rep. in the 123rd District. I have known Doug, his wife Terry and their son Kevin for many years and I know how committed they are to the Town of Trumbull and to the State of Connecticut.

Doug has been a dedicated volunteer in our town for years — whether it was leading his son’s Cub Scout Pack at Daniels Farm Elementary School, organizing collection drives for the Trumbull Food Pantry or helping clean up the town on Tidy Up Trumbull Day, Doug believes in giving back.

Through Doug’s Public Access and YouTube show Stream of Conscience, Doug has worked to raise awareness of many grassroots efforts and to celebrate the unsung activists in our community. He has focused on issues ranging from the environment, human health, regional planning, school lunches, world peace and many more. He even interviewed me for a half-hour show on what was happening in the State Legislature. Doug cares about our community and he is working to make things better for everyone.

Serving as your state senator, I have seen Doug engage our representatives in Hartford on issues like GMO labeling, gun safety, and money in politics. He was very influential in helping me formulate my opinion on the GMO issue that resulted in the nation’s first GMO labeling bill in 2013.

Doug is passionate about making a difference and I know he will make a great representative for the citizens of Trumbull.
