Letter — Strong school system helps all residents
My name is Matt Caron, and I am honored to be part of this election’s team of Republican candidates running for Board of Education on November 7.
A little over four-years ago I heeded a call to step forward to serve the town that my family and I love living and being a part of, by accepting an appointment to the Park & Rec. Commission. After an enjoyable year on the commission, I was asked to run for a Town Council seat representing District 4 and was humbled by the level of support which led to my election to the position in 2015.
During the past term, I have served on the Town Council’s Finance, Public Works, and Tax Abatement Program sub-committees. It has been truly an educational and enriching experience representing the residents of District 4.
This year’s election, I have been afforded the privilege of seeking a seat on Trumbull’s Board of Education. With two children in our outstanding public school system, I will do my best to ensure that our school system continues to make strides as an educational model for other communities, while providing an exceptional educational experience for all students.
Our school system has seen great success over the last several years under the strong leadership of the Board of Education and school administration. They have worked as a unified team whose strategic investments have produced significant results within all areas of our school system.
Over the past three years, the State Department of Education has cited every one of Trumbull’s elementary schools, middle schools and high school as a “Connecticut School of Distinction.” The 2017 CT State Department of Education’s Accountability Report, the assessment or “report card” for Connecticut’s 200 public school districts, ranks Trumbull as the #2 K-12 school district in the entire state, just behind Darien and; the graduates of the Class of 2016 were admitted to 42 colleges and universities ranked by Barron’s Profile of American Colleges as “Most Competitive”, including nine Ivy League.
If elected I will bring years of budgetary and operational experience into this important role, while maintaining an open mind as I recognize the value in evaluating input from all sides, with the goal of reaching the best, most concise decision on any given matter.
As is the case with all the current board members, I will bring a high level of commitment and professionalism, and I will work to ensure that all students, at all grade levels, have the opportunity for success both inside and outside the classroom I will work to improve communication between our schools, the board members, the public and administration to ensure that all situations receive the appropriate level of attention; and I will work to confirm that our residency program is meeting intended objectives through both the initial application and succeeding evaluations.
On November 7 I would be grateful for your support of myself, as well as the entire Lavoie ticket.
