To the Editor:

My name is Mark LeClair, and I am running for reelection to Trumbull’s Town Council, District 4, on the Republican ticket. I thank district voters for allowing me to serve as your representative these last two years.

Under the leadership of Tim Herbst, Trumbull has enjoyed a prosperous and productive four years. We have transitioned from persistent, high tax increases under the previous administration, to a new era of modest, sustainable increases (now averaging 1.8% annually). At the same time, town services have improved. Last year, full-day kindergarten was implemented in our superb school system. In addition, school security has been enhanced. Also, tax relief for seniors has expanded. The Herbst administration’s accomplishments are especially remarkable given the lackluster economic environment in the State of Connecticut, where unemployment remains above the national average, and state taxes continue to surge even as state debt balloons (see “How Did Rich Connecticut Morph Into One of America’s Worst Performing Economies?” Forbes, August 2013). In the face of economic adversity, Trumbull is growing its Grand List, improving its bond rating, adding services, while stabilizing property taxes. No wonder Trumbull is receiving national accolades for its quality of life.

Many voters are frustrated with the political arenas in Hartford and in Washington, D.C. But you can make a direct and powerful statement here, in the great Town of Trumbull. Please come out on Nov. 5 and support Tim Herbst and his entire team. Let’s continue moving Trumbull in a positive direction.

Mark S. LeClair
