Letter: As first selectman, Tesoro will foster community spirit

To the Editor:
A sense of community is important for a small town like Trumbull. I am excited about Trumbull First Selectman candidate Vicki Tesoro’s platform regarding building community.
Vicki understands the enrichment and enjoyment that an arts program brings to our residents. The Trumbull Youth Association (TYA) lost its independent line item status in the current town budget, despite offering a successful summer program for over 45 years, benefitting generations of Trumbull teens. Vicki plans to restore TYA to its former status, and research the possibility of developing a community theater program.
Vicki also plans to bring together a multi-generational committee to explore the need for a community center and identify viable options. Meanwhile, there will be a sharper focus on the current senior center, including using existing funds for improvements.
As first selectman, Vicki will seek public input. She understands that the people of a town are its greatest resource, and encouraging community volunteerism is the best way to invest in the future of Trumbull. As Vicki has said, “It’s not about me, it’s about we.”
Please join me in voting for Vicki Tesoro so that together, we can make her vision of a strong and inclusive community a reality.
