Robert Joseph Sullivan Sr., of Trumbull, CT, beloved husband of Mary Brannelly Sullivan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Vincent's Medical Center on Monday, December 24, 2012.

Robert was born in Bridgeport, CT, to the late John Patrick and Theresa Stehle Sullivan.

Robert was a graduate of Central High School and Bridgeport Engineering Institute. He joined the United States Navy proudly serving his country during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex as Petty Officer, Photographer's Mate, Second Class. After being honorably discharged, he dedicated 40 years of service to the Southern New England Telephone Company.

Robert had a love of photography, gardening, dancing, UConn women's basketball and the New York Giants. He enjoyed spending time at the family's Lake Zoar summer home. A musician, he played the piano and trumpet for the enjoyment of many.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Robert is survived by his eight children: Anne S. Martikainen (John), Robert J. Sullivan, Jr. (Patricia), John P. Sullivan, Thomas P. Sullivan (Stephanie), Brian J. Sullivan, Sheila S. Neville (Thomas), Michael J. Sullivan (Margaret) and Mary C. FitzGerald (William), 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Regina Lombardi Sullivan, and brothers John, Donald and Roger Sullivan.

Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull, handled arrangements. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull.
