Obituary: Sophie S. Horodeck, 93, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Trumbull
She was born in Brooklyn, NY in October of 1919 and was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, William Horodeck.
Prior to her retirement and move to Greenville, S.C. in November 2009, she had lived in Trumbull, CT for many years and had enjoyed a career in retail sales at the former Alexander’s Department Store (CT Post Mall, Milford) followed by a second career in the Trumbull Public School system at Booth Hill School, where she was known to both students and staff as “Mrs H.”
Both she and her husband were founding members of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Nichols, CT and enjoyed a love of travel, together as a couple and with friends, that encompassed trips to Brazil, cross-country in the U.S., Italy, Scandinavia and Western Europe.
Survivors include her two children (and their respective spouses), Richard A. Horodeck and Xiao Bei Jiang; Mary Horodeck and C.H. Hitson as well as a granddaughter, Cameron.
Sophie will be remembered in the following masses at St. Catherine of Sienna Church: Thursday, 5/23/2013 @ 7:30 AM, Sunday, 12/29/2013 @ 7:30 AM and a one year anniversary mass on Sunday, 2/23/2014 @ 10:30 AM. All who remember Sophie fondly are welcome to attend any of these masses.
