Obituary: Richard Sussman, 91, chemist, Trumbull EMS volunteer
Richard Sussman, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, November 25, 2016.
Richard was born in New Milford, CT to the late Regina and Alexander Sussman.
Richard was the beloved husband of the late Ann Sussman to whom he was married to for 53 years. He was predeceased by his brothers, Maurice and Irving, and his sister Shirley.
Richard was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the Army at the age of 18. Following the end of the war, Richard graduated from Queens College with a degree in Chemistry, ultimately retiring from Textron (Avco Lycoming) as Chief Chemist.
Richard found his true calling after his wife Ann became an Emergency Medical Technician and volunteered with the Trumbull EMS. Not one to sit at home while Ann was riding around with ‘lights and sirens,’ Richard also became certified as an EMT and driver. Both Ann and Richard spent over 30 years as dedicated volunteers with the Trumbull EMS, with Richard driving the ambulance well into his 80’s.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Joan and Karen Sussman, his grandchildren, Rachel and Aaron Appelle, and Andrew and Will Grathwohl, and his constant companion, Lulu.
Burial by Honor Guard will be private.
