Mary Susanne “Sue” Martie (nee Morris), 79, passed away Sunday night, Aug. 31, in Georgetown, Kentucky. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was born in Centralia, Illinois, grew up in Salem and later, Palatine, Illinois. She lived in Trumbull, Connecticut for nearly 40 years and in Georgetown, Kentucky for the last decade of her life.

She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Jack Martie, her two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Donna Martie of Littleton, Colorado, and Chuck and Katherine Martie of East Haddam, Connecticut. She also leaves her grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, Susanne, Baker and Caleb and a great-grandchild, Oliver. She doted on them and they were the joy of her life.

As a young woman, Sue was a classically-trained pianist who appeared on stage in Chicago and on television. She was also a fine golfer, and we cherished the nine-home rounds we would play together in the evening. She was an avid shopper, loved tag sales, played tennis and cards, and constantly redecorated her home with homemade crafts and paintings from local artists. She collected golf memorabilia and books throughout her life. She loved genealogy and left the family with a deep and rich history of the many branches of the family tree. Her sense of humor and wit are well-known and loved by her friends, family and caregivers. She cherished her family and friends, loved sweets, loved to laugh, and kept busy at her family history, and crafts as long as her health would allow.

A memorial service will be at 11:30, Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, 320 West Main Street, Georgetown, Ky., with a memorial visitation on Thursday from 10 to 11:30, at the funeral home.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 1317 US Highway 62-E, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031, who provided her and the family with great care and comfort over the past few months.
