Linda S. Reilly of Trumbull, previously of Westport, passed away peacefully June 10, 2015, at the age of 80.
Born March 16, 1935, in Montclair, NJ, Linda was the eldest daughter of Dorothy and Herbert C. Schoof. After the family’s move to Charlotte, NC, in her teenage years, Linda earned her BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She began her career in New York City in the late 1950s, working in market research. She remained active professionally as she started a family with her husband at that time, Donald Reilly, the late New Yorker cartoonist.
A founding member of the tuition-free Grosvenor House nursery school in Manhattan in the early ‘60s, Linda went on to become an early childhood educator in Westport after her family’s move there in 1966. She was a teacher and program director at Seabury Nursery School and Saugatuck Child Care Services for several decades.
In later years, Linda shifted her professional focus to the senior population. She served as a Medicare outreach associate at Oxford Health Plans until retiring. She remained dedicated to outreach and worked part-time as a telephone outreach associate for the COPD Foundation until 2014.
Linda’s passions were her family, community, jazz, painting, reading, and politics. For years, she was active in the Democratic party in Westport.
Linda, who was divorced, was predeceased by her companion of many years, bassist Jack Lesberg, and her siblings, Carl and Gretchen.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia, of New York, and by son Brian and daughter-in-law Kristin and son Michael and daughter-in-law Michele, of Trumbull. Linda was the beloved grandmother of Hanna, Michael, Liza, Erin, Annie, and Sophie.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 2 to 5 p.m., at 12 Crocus Lane, Trumbull.
