Irving B. Schwartz, age 91, of Trumbull, CT died peacefully at Coachman Square of Woodbridge, CT surrounded by his loving family on September 24, 2016.

Mr. Schwartz was the son of the late Henry and Minnie Schwartz. His beloved wife, Harriet (“Cookie”), and his cherished grandson, Bryan, passed away in 2010, and his devoted sister Muriel Silverstone in 2016.

Born in Stamford, CT, he graduated from Stamford H.S. in 1942. Irv worked a full time job during the day and attended NYU in the evenings before joining the US Army Corp of Engineers in 1943. A proud veteran, he honorably served during WW II and obtained the rank of Technical Sergeant. He participated in battles and campaigns in Northern France, Germany and Central Europe, as well as the Pacific Theater. He was responsible for all company records and correspondence, as well as acting as intelligence officer and headquarters platoon sergeant.

After the war, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from NYU and obtained his CPA. He worked for an accounting firm in Port Chester, NY before opening his own practice in Bridgeport, CT. He ultimately was a managing partner in the accounting firm, Schwartz & Sax, CPA’s in Fairfield for over fifty years.

Irv was an avid sports fan; he was passionate about the New York Giants and UCONN Huskies. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed nightly calls with his children, grandchildren and sisters. He was a true “family man” – a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle, whose warmth and love will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His survivors include his loving children, Terry Friedman (Melyssa) of Manalapan, NJ., Henry Schwartz (Peggy) of Arizona, Matthew Schwartz (Tricia) of Milford, Martha Schwartz (Erika) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Stuart Schwartz (Lori) of Trumbull; his beloved grandchildren, Jason Friedman, Marc Friedman and Katie Parker of New Jersey, Michael, Rebecca, Zachary and Aaron Schwartz, Robert Schwartz (Melissa) and Melissa Schwartz of Milford, and Stephanie, Nicole and Justin Schwartz of Trumbull; his four cherished great grandchildren, Jack and Joshua Friedman of New Jersey and Dylan and Caroline Schwartz of Milford; one surviving sister, Charlotte Sachs of Bridgeport; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at the Abraham L Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Rd, Fairfield. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irv’s name may be made to Hospice, The Alzheimer’s Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.

Irv’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff from Coachman Square of Woodbridge, CT, Vitas Hospice of Waterbury, CT, Sovereign Healthcare, and a special thank you to Julianna Murphy and Laurie Luce for their love and special care.
