Elizabeth H. (Egger) Kessler, 92, formerly of Trumbull, Connecticut, died peacefully with loved ones at her side Monday, January 5, at Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Betty was born in Chicago on March 4, 1922 to the late William and Elizabeth (Mauer) Egger.

As a child she lived in Elmhurst, IL, married and raised her family there and in Lombard, IL. The family moved to New Jersey in the early 1960s and then to Trumbull, Connecticut in the early 1970s, where she lived until 2008.

She was a caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed photography, bookbinding, gardening, knitting and sewing. Betty was a lifelong reader with a special interest in biological sciences and an advocate of continuing education, enthusiastically enrolling in college-level courses until she was well into her sixties.

As an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Trumbull she was instrumental in establishing a chapter of Stephen Ministries, an organization founded to train lay members of the church to meet the need of members of the community during difficult times in their lives.

Elizabeth was the widow of the late Theodore Kessler Sr. and is survived by a son Theodore and his wife Anna of Searsport, Maine and a daughter Christine Mandel and her husband Eric of Petersham, Massachusetts.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Mastronardi.

Betty is also survived by four grandchildren, Sara Addesa, Adam Kessler, Jacob Mandel, Elizabeth Wallace and five great grandchildren, Owen, Lucia, Gabriella, Grace and Ezra.

A private family burial will take place at a later date.
