Obituary: Elizabeth “Betty” Rogers Board, 89, formerly of Trumbull, retired kindergarten teacher
Daughter of the late Charles Ely and Maud Chapin Rogers, she was born on March 10, 1924 in Manchester, CT. She moved from Trumbull, CT to Manasquan in June 2012.
Betty was an undergraduate of Cornell University and received master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She is a retired kindergarten teacher from Milford Public Schools, Milford, CT. She taught at Point Beach, Orange Avenue and Live Oaks School. She was a member of Milford Historical Society, Connecticut Audubon Society and Greater Bridgeport Retired Teachers’ Association.
Her passion in life was painting with her fellow teachers Mrs. Terry Bernstein and Mrs. Betty Walkama. Betty enjoyed swimming, traveling and gardening. She was able to enjoy trips with her daughter-in-laws to Russia, Spain and Iceland.
She leaves a stepdaughter Elizabeth Jan Solsbury and two sons (and spouses) Scott W. and Catherine Abercrombie, Brielle, NJ and Robert C. and Mary Anne Abercrombie Trumbull, CT. She is survived by 9 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son Dr. Jack Rogers Abercrombie.
A memorial service will be held April 5, 2013, at 11a.m. at Church of St. Uriel the Archangel, 219 Philadelphia and 3rd Ave., Sea Girt, NJ. (www.urielsg.org). Arrangements in care of O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, NJ.
