Elizabeth “Betty” Anton Mezick, age 102 of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in her home. Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Henry Nuernberg and John Mezick.

She was born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Theodore and Margaret Hausliab Anton.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Central High School and Booth and Bayless Commercial School, and formerly worked for Bridgeport Brass during World War II, and retired from Bryant Electric.

She volunteered in the Monroe School System and enjoyed time at the Monroe Senior Center, where she took her famous cookies, weekly played bingo and enjoyed the lunches with her friends. In March we celebrated her 102nd birthday.

Elizabeth was a member of the Women’s Guild at St. John’s Church for 65 years; she enjoyed the card parties and bringing her favorite desserts. After she retired she spent many years working in the kitchen making nut and poppy seed rolls, bread and also spent many hours making pierogies which were used for fundraising.

Survivors include her children Elaine DeDonato and husband Joseph of Trumbull, twins Marie Mintell and husband Richard of Deltona, FL, Margaret Traub and husband Carl of Trumbull, Peter Mezick and Marion of Monroe, and Michael Mezick also of Monroe, a daughter-in-law Edwina Mezick of Monroe, a brother John Anton of Trumbull, two sisters Dorothy Koger of Trumbull and Marge Beattie and husband Franklin of Huntington, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands and parents, Elizabeth is predeceased by her son John Mezick, Jr. and granddaughter Kristen Mezick.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30a.m, meeting directly in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church, 100 St. John Drive, Trumbull, with the Rev. Joseph Pertha, officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in St. John’s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Friday from 5p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, with a Panachida service at 7p.m.
