Donald C. Washburn, age 92, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2014 at St. Joseph Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Patricia Meehan Washburn. He and his “Patsy” grew up on Willow Street in Bridgeport and were happily married for 70 years.

Born in McAdam, New Brunswick, Canada on September 15, 1922, he was one of 13 children born to Robert E. and Dora Clarkson Washburn.

He graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1941 and went on to serve during World War II in the U.S. Navy Air Force aboard the USS Cabot CVL 28 as a turret gunner on a Grumman Avenger in the South Pacific.  He was a driver for the CR & L Bus Company before joining the Bridgeport Fire Department where he drove Hook-and-ladder trucks and retired as a Lieutenant after many years of dedicated service.

Don was an involved and wonderful Dad to his children, Carol A. Iassogna and her husband Ralph of Shelton, Mary Alice Leone and her husband Michael of Stratford, Raymond E. Washburn and his wife Norma of Baden, PA and Robert H. Washburn and his wife Christine of Bridgeport. He loved and enjoyed his 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and was anticipating the birth of the 23rd in February. He had unique names for all the kids and teasing them was his specialty.

He was predeceased by ten siblings and is survived by his sisters, Ruby Kuehn of Fairfield and Joan Miller of Shelton, a brother-in-law, Lawrence M. Meehan of Stratford and sisters-in-law, Mary Meehan of Bridgeport and Anna Meehan Esalnek of Trumbull, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to go directly to St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, Trumbull is in charge of the arrangements.
