Cathleen Halmeck, age 53 of Bridgeport and formerly of Fairfield, the beloved daughter of Margaret Halmeck Barrett and the late Lawrence Halmeck, passed away at home on May 6, 2014.

Cathy graduated from Andrew Warde High School and received her associate degree in liberal arts from Sacred Heart University and a bachelor degree in library science from Southern Connecticut State University.

She was employed by the city of Stamford for 27 years as a librarian at the Turner River Library and most recently at the Ferguson Library. She was a faithful Catholic and a member of the Emmaus group at Holy Family Church. Cathy was also a remarkable athlete and excelled in softball and swimming. She was an avid University of Notre Dame and New York Yankees fan.

A true American patriot, Cathy had a zest for life and her enthusiasm and love of her family, thirst for knowledge and overall spunky personality will be missed by every person she met.

In addition to her mother, Cathy is survived by her loving brothers, William Halmeck and his wife, Annette Sandt Halmeck of Trumbull and Daniel Halmeck of Fairfield . She will also be missed by her cherished nieces and nephews, Jessica, Matthew and Mary Margaret Halmeck; and and John David Barrett, IV; and many other relatives and beloved friends.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Holy Family Church in Fairfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center.
