Bernice N. Tobin, 74 of Trumbull, Ct, passed away on Tuesday August 5, 2014 at Bridgeport Hospital.

Bernice was born in Mt. Vernon, NY in 1940 to the late Allen and Sylvia Silver.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, her son and daughter, six grandchildren, and a brother and sister.  Bernice lived in Trumbull, CT for the past 48 years. Her love and passion were her cherished six grandchildren who called her Mama and Grandma.

Bernice started teaching in New City, NY, then in Jericho, NY, before she taught in the Trumbull School System from 1974 until she retired in 1999. Teaching first grade children was her life’s work but she also taught English as a Second Language and Head Start. In retirement Bernice did volunteer work in nursery schools, taught English to non-English speaking individuals on weekends in the Bridgeport area and traveled extensively with her husband and family.

Funeral services took place on Thursday, August 7th with interment at the Westchester Jewish Center Cemetery in Glenville, CT. Shiva services will be observed Thursday and Sunday evenings at the Tobin residence in Trumbull at 6:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Bernice’s favorite charity.
