Obituary: Alexander “Ike” Chernak, 92, of Trumbull
Alexander “Ike” Chernak, age 92, of Trumbull passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 in his home. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn Renshaw Chernak.
Born in Bridgeport, Mr. Chernak was an United States Army veteran, serving in WWII, and a 1950 graduate of the University of CT.
He received his CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) in 1966. Mr. Chernak was a lecturer at the University of Conn. He retired as Vice-president of Beardsley, Brown and Bassett and was a longtime member of Brooklawn Country Club.
Mr. Chernak was active with the Board of Managers of the Lakewood Trumbull YMCA Branch, in his church and community.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Elizabeth Blum and her husband Jonathan of Durham, NC, and CiCi Nielsen and her husband Glen of Kent, CT, a sister, Mary Chednack, of Bridgeport, and four grandchildren, Tait and Laura Nielsen, Dane Nielsen, James Blum, and Christina Blum.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 am in Grace Episcopal Church, 5958 Main Street, Trumbull. Interment will be private. Friends may call Sunday 3 to 6 pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
