The Trumbull Police Department sub-station, located next to the exterior entrance to Ten Asian Bistro at the Westfield Trumbull Mall, is where residents can drop off their prescription drugs during the annual Public Safety Day being held Saturday, April 30.

The Trumbull Police Department and Westfield Trumbull Mall will host the annual Public Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

The family-friendly outdoor event will take place in the Westfield Trumbull parking lot adjacent to Panera Bread.

The event is free to attend and will provide opportunities for all ages to learn more about the many public safety resources available throughout Fairfield County.

Highlights of Public Safety Day include: a helicopter landing demonstration (weather permitting) that morning; Connecticut State Police crash and rollover simulator; police cars, ambulances, fire trucks; and a variety of emergency equipment on display for families to enjoy.

New to the event this year will be an appearance by WTNH Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Sam Kantrow and the Mobile Weather Lab.

The Mobile Weather Lab is a state of the art storm chase vehicle, equipped with a permanent weather station set-up on the roof. It's a great tool to learn about severe weather and how to stay safe in the event of a weather emergency. The vehicle has a flat screen TV that is connected to a laptop streaming real time data from satellites to allow WTNH’s team to track storms as they approach the state.

Drug take-back day

This year’s event also coincides with National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, as Westfield Trumbull Mall will serve as a drop off location during the event.

The community is invited to drop off unwanted, unneeded or expired medication for safe and proper disposal at the Trumbull Police Department sub-station, located next to the exterior entrance to Ten Asian Bistro at Westfield Trumbull.

This disposal service is free and anonymous. No information will be requested from the individuals dropping off prescriptions.

“It has been ten years since Westfield Trumbull first hosted Public Safety Day with the Trumbull Police Department, and we’re thrilled to continue the event this year,” said Trumbull Police Chief Michael Lombardo. "There will be plenty of emergency vehicles and interesting public safety gear to see, so we hope everyone will join us for a fun and exciting day.”

In the event of rain or inclement weather, the event will take place under the parking structure next to Lord & Taylor.
