Tree work on the Rails to Trails between Tait Road and Whitney Avenue begins today (May 22). That portion of the trail will be closed to the public due to the hazardous nature of the work. Trumbull residents should expect the trail to be closed Monday through Friday until the work is completed. The trail is expected to be open on weekends and Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. Please heed all trail closure signs and do not attempt to enter the trail when it is marked closed.
This remediation work was initiated by the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), and will be performed by contractors hired by DEEP. The cost of pruning and taking down trees will be paid for with state funds. The trees in question have been identified by DEEP as either having failed for a variety of reasons or being in a serious state of decline, and accordingly have been marked for safety pruning or complete removal where necessary. Although this parkland is owned jointly by the town and DEEP, DEEP has the care, custody and control of managing all of the trees in this parcel.
