Town looking for health director, other positions
The Town of Trumbull is hiring.
According to a March 12 posting on trumbull-ct.gov, the town is looking for qualified candidates for the following positions: Director of Health, Director of Parks and Recreation, internal auditor, civil engineer, school janitor, school custodian and a highway/parks maintainer.
The Director of Health position is new in Trumbull, part of next year’s proposed budget. The Town Council previously voted to leave the Trumbull Monroe Health District, effective July 1, and form a town department. First Selectman Herbst said the town having its own health department will lead to savings of about $17,000 and greater oversight. The director of health position will pay $91,000 a year. Duties include overseeing the inspection of food service establishments, sub-surface sewerage water and wastewater systems, private and semi-private drinking water supplies, housing and commercial or industrial establishments to assure that town and state health codes are maintained and/or violations are corrected.
The director of parks and recreation is a position that Herbst added to his proposed budget for next year. It is part of a proposal to reorganize the parks and recreation departments (See his statement on the reorganization here). The position’s salary range is $90,000 to $95,000 and applications will be accepted through March 27.
General duties of the position include implementing community programs, overseeing maintenance of facilities, long-term planning and developing a revenue schedule within the operating budget.
An open internal auditor position is advertised as paying a salary of $71,574 to $75,481.
In conjunction with the Board of Finance, the internal auditor must set an annual financial review plan to determine accuracy of financial records and internal accounting controls, according to the posting. Among other duties, the auditor also assists in development of new financial procedures and policies recommended by the director of finance.
A full time civil engineer for the town would make anywhere from $30.61 to $36.55 an hour. The civil engineer’s duties include designing and detailing various Public Works and WPCA projects.
A full time custodian position with the Board of Education is offering $19.56 per hour, and $20.59 an hour once a probationary period if successfully completed. The custodian would be responsible for condition and cleaning of a school building or group of smaller buildings.
A janitor position with the schools will pay $13.50 an hour, increasing to $14.21 about probationary period. The janitor would be responsible for cleaning assigned areas of a school building, under direction of a custodian.
Finally, a highway and park maintainer for the town is needed. The full-time position pays $22.99 an hour to increase to $23.57 an hour after July 1.
The qualified person must have “considerable physical strength, stamina and ability to lift at least 80 lbs.” The position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of roadways, roadsides, bridges, parks, recreation areas and public grounds.
