Seven Trumbull police officers rise in rank

Getting a promotion is always nice.

That’s why there was only smiles inside the Town Hall council chambers May 10, when seven Trumbull police officers were sworn into new positions within the department.

Promoted to the rank of lieutenant were Sgt. Richard Bernaud, a 33-year veteran of the police department who was hired in July 1982; Detective Sgt. Kenneth Jones, a 19-year veteran who arrived in Trumbull in August 1996; and Sgt. Douglas Smith, a 15-year veteran who joined in March 2001.

The new lieutenants weren’t the only members of the force that were being promoted.

In the sergeant division, Detective Robert Coppola, a 15-year veteran who joined the department in January 2001; Officer Michael Pires, a 12-year veteran who arrived in October 2003; and Officer Christopher Barton, a seven-year veteran who was hired in July 2008.

Promoted to the rank of detective was Officer Edgar Perez, who has been serving 14 years since joining the department in May 2002.

First Selectman Tim Herbst swore in the seven officers in front of a gathering of friends, family members, and members of the police commission.
