On Friday, June 5 Trumbull resident Madeline Aldora Ouimette turned 106, making her the oldest resident in town.

First Selectman Tim Herbst presented Ouimette with a proclamation, naming the day in her honor. According to the proclamation, when Ouimette was born in 1909, milk was .32 cents a gallon and the average salary was $750 a year.

Ouimette has three children, 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Ouimette was an entrepreneur, owning her own beauty parlor in Massachusetts before being hired by Sikorsky Aircraft as a seamstress, making cloth seat covers for helicopters.

Her secret to a long life?

Find something to do everyday, have a plan the night before. Always keep busy with your mind and body. Never drink soda, just tea and eat a good supper with plenty of fresh vegetables. Ouimett also suggests enjoys sweets but in moderation.
Her final suggestion is to keep family close in your life and have faith in the Lord.
