Open for business

It was a busy Monday evening at the new Route 111 Shopping Center, and a parking spot was hard to come by, as customers packed new businesses just recently opened.

The shopping center, close to the intersection of Route 25, is now home to two new restaurants, a pet supplies store and a gym.

Two of those new businesses, Edge Fitness and Prime One Eleven, a new steak restaurant, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting with town officials.

“We are very excited that the Route 111 Shopping Center has opened in the north end of Trumbull,” First Selectman Timothy Herbst said this week. “This commercial center is proof positive that the demand is there to provide our residents with more dining and shopping options.

Prime One Eleven, which describes its cuisine as “new” American, offers steaks, seafood, burgers, and more. The restaurant has a large bar and dining room.

Pet Valu, a pet supplies store, also opened in the center this week. Chip’s Family Restaurant opened in August.

Herbst said he’d like to see more development like the new shopping center.

“As the Planning and Zoning Commission completes updates to the Plan of Conservation and Development, we need to start addressing other areas of town for reuse and revitalization,” Herbst said. “This will provide more venues for our residents and also grow the tax base as we seek to continue to stabilize property taxes for homeowners.”
