State Representative Tony Hwang (R-134) received the 2014 “Champion of Youth” Award given annually by the Connecticut Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs at their annual Legislative Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Conn. State Capitol.

“I am thrilled to receive the statewide Boys & Girls Club ‘Champion of Youth’ award. The statewide alliance is an organization that has positively impacted the lives of young men and women for over 100 years and to be chosen by their statewide recognition is an incredible honor and privilege. Rep Hwang added, “The Boys & Girls Clubs is all about kids. Their programs support and empower young people to develop a stronger body, a stronger mind and most importantly a stronger heart to care and interact within their community.”

To a room full of Boys & Girls Club youths, David Blagys said, “Tony has been a fantastic ambassador for the youths of the Boys & Girls Club. He has always been there to advocate and be our voice at the State Capitol.”

The award honors members of the executive branch or legislature who have consistently supported and advocated for the expansion of youth services. The annual Connecticut Boys & Girls Club legislative breakfast is named after former State Representative Richard Belden, who actively advocated for the advancement of young people and was admired by his colleagues on both sides of the aisle during his service in the General Assembly. This year’s breakfast marked the beginning of National Boys & Girls Club Week.
