Fairfield lawmakers State Rep. Laura Devlin (R-134) and Sen. Tony Hwang (R-28) attended the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society's 2016 Connecticut Activism day at the State Capitol in Hartford on March 29.
The MS movement led the effort on MS Action Day by sharing the solutions and experiences they've uncovered to live their lives to the fullest, and inspiring others to become more powerful than the challenges of MS.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) involves an immune-mediated process in which an abnormal response of the body's immune system is directed against the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. The exact antigen - or target that the immune cells are sensitized to attack - remains unknown, which is why MS is considered by many experts to be "immune-mediated" rather than "autoimmune."
Both Rep. Devlin and Sen. Hwang spoke with constituents suffering with the disease and listened intently to their concerns.
