On Oct. 20, Frenchtown Elementary School celebrated its eighth annual Democracy Day.

It was attended by First Selectman Timothy Herbst, First Selectman candidate Town Councilperson Vicki Tesoro, State Senator Tony Hwang, Representative Dave Rutigliano, Superintendent Dr. Cialfi, many members of the Trumbull Town Council, Board of Education, Administrators from Long Hill, staff, parents, students and the greater community.

This annual event fosters a renewed awareness and appreciation for an early start in participating in our great democratic system.

Democracy Day is a celebration of what is good about America. For the eighth time, we welcomed Ms. Gloria Francesconi of the Trumbull League of Women Voters, who spoke about the important role it has played in promoting our democracy for the greatest number of people.
Democracy Day fosters a road map of mutual respect and a conduct of dignity on our way to more fully realizing the great political experiment we call democracy. The Frenchtown community came together with pride. Our children must see our yearning for a more active electorate. There is no better way to honor those who serve than to do our civic duty and become an educated voter.
