Intro to Archery — Introduction to archery equipment, safety and shooting techniques. Supervised by a CT DEEP instructor. Ages 8 and up. Free. Sunday, June 9, 9-11 a.m.
Eating local — Want to taste the best tasting strawberry ever? Explore how locally farmed foods taste better than your typical grocery store foods. Lori Cochran-Dougall, market director for the Westport Farmers Market, will explore the local food system and help to educate children on farmers, farmers markets and how to find the best tasting food around. Wednesday, June 12, 4-5 p.m. Cost: $5 for non-members/$3 for members.
Great firefly round-up — Gather at sunset and learn a bit about fireflies as we celebrate this curious insect. Learn why fireflies glow, and grab a net and jar before venturing into the summer night to participate in a friendly competition. Friday, June 21, 8-9 p.m. Cost: $15/family for non-members /$12./family for members.
Sunflower planting day — Join TNAC for a casual drop in Mammoth Sunflower Planting Day. Learn all about sunflowers, and how they benefit the environment and wildlife from Agriscience/Biotech student, Eleni. Bring home Mammoth sunflower seeds to plant in your own garden. Children play on the playground and trails and learn more about TNAC programs. Free to people of all ages. All materials supplied. Sunday, June 22, anytime between noon-2 p.m.
Campfire storytelling — Come join us around the campfire, have a few s’mores and listen to stories told about our earth. From across the ages and faraway lands come a variety of thought provoking stories which can help us be better stewards of our environment. Bring a blanket, wear your pajamas, fun for all ages. Friday, June 28, 8-9 p.m. Cost: $15/family for non-members ; $12/family for members.
‘Take a Hike’ workshop — First annual hiking and backpacking seminar. Topics will include hiking vs backpacking, finding a hike, planning for your outing, types of gear, trail navigation, trail safety, and leave no trace. You will also learn some basic strength and cardio exercises to get you ready and combat fatigue and muscle soreness. Thursday, June 27, 6-8 p.m. Cost: $7 for non-members, $5 for members.
Not your average ‘Art’ program — Explore nature and culture through art with Miss Kathy. Art programs will bring children through a creative journey by exploring nature, wildlife, and world cultures. Programs will expand their imagination through the creative process of interpretation.
Youngters age 6-9 will explore what lives deep beneath the sea by using their knowledge and imagination to create wonderful works of colorful sea creature art.
Children age 7-10 will use mixed media to design and interpret endangered creatures and their habitats in a fun and creative series that will explore the world of wildlife.
Ages 9-14 will immerse themselves in cultures from around the world through art from various regions using mixed media applications, and textured natural objects.
All participants will have the opportunity to enter works of art in TNAC town art show which will be displayed in August and September.
