No school on Monday, Oct. 13, in observance of Columbus Day.
School Store will be open twice a month on Tuesdays during lunch. This month it will be open on Oct. 14 and 28.
Parents of K, 1 and 2 students are invited to a Reading and Math Night on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 7-8:30 p.m. Come meet the math and reading specialists and learn about our curriculum. Flyers have been sent home.
Visitation Days are Thursday, Oct. 16, during the morning and on Friday, Oct. 17 in the afternoon. Teachers have sent home individual invitations with the specific dates and times that you are invited to observe your child at work.
Fathers’ Club Movie Night this month will be on Oct. 17. Look for the flier coming home with more info.
Jane Ryan School
The Parent Open House will be on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 9-10:30 a.m. for grades K-2 and on Thursday, Oct. 16 for grade 4 from 10:30 a.m.-noon, grade 5 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and grade 3 from 1:15-3 p.m. An individual invitation from your child’s class was sent home with more information. Parents only, no siblings.
The PTA is looking for one or more people to work on a monthly newsletter. It would require gathering updates from PTA Chairs, school staff and putting together a newsletter to distribute to the Jane Ryan families. If you can help, please contact Joan Rondano at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prizes are needed for the Pumpkin Fair raffle on Sunday, Oct. 18. New games or puzzles, toys, gift certificates, unused gift cards, jewelry, sports-related items, CDs, video games will be happily accepted and can be picked up at your home. Monetary donations are also accepted. Please make checks payable to Jane Ryan PTA. All proceeds go towards purchasing prizes. Please send all donations to school marked Pumpkin Fair Raffle or hand deliver it – a Raffle Box can be found in the main office. Cakes are needed for the annual Cake Walk, held at the Pumpkin Fair. Any type of cake, cupcake, cookie or treat you’d like to bake is appreciated. This year, awards will be given for the most popular adult and children’s cake. Any questions, contact Penny Ploski.

KARE Talent Show: Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. All acts must attend mandatory rehearsals after school on Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Thursday, Oct. 9 from 2:30-3:20 p.m. Admission is $4. KARE uses proceeds to fund various community service projects throughout the year.
Attention students ages 14 and up: Impact Teen Drivers” has opened up the Create Real Impact Contest to ask young people to show how they would talk about the very real problem of reckless and distracted driving. Students can enter to win cash and prizes for themselves and the school by showcasing original art, music, video and creative writing addressing this issue. Contest information can be found on the counter in the Counseling Office. Deadline is Friday, Oct. 10.
8th grade students: Career Night on Thursday, Oct. 16. Students can submit designs for the cover of the information packet given out that evening to all students and presenters. There is a small prize for the winning cover. See Mrs. Hellthaler or Mr. Barbato in the guidance office for details.

Middlebrook Book Drive: Donate new or gently used children’s books to Read to Grow, a nonprofit organization that will distribute books to families in need. A collection box will be in the front foyer until Oct. 30.
