Trumbull High School's 'Truth About Hate' freshman program

Trumbull High School Intervention Specialist, Bill Mecca and Associate in the Dean’s Office, Dennis McLaughlin, have been working diligently with the Peer Leaders and staff in preparation for this year’s freshman presentation of the “Truth About Hate” program. More than 60 students and staff participated in this year’s training session conducted on Feb. 1.

According to Mecca and McLaughlin, the program is a student centered program developed to teach respect for differences and to provide a safe forum where students can examine difficult issues and affect positive change.

“On the morning of Feb. 13, all freshmen will attend the assembly run by trained students and faculty members with our ADL leaders, followed by breakout sessions where our students will have the opportunity to address this topic in a small group setting with trained facilitators. The program will culminate with students being asked to formulate a school wide plan to reduce meanness and foster respect and tolerance.”
