The downtown Fairfield University Bookstore will celebrate Read Across America with The Cat In The Hat Story Time, geared toward kids ages 3 to 7 accompanied by an adult, on Saturday, March 1, at 4 p.m. A live costumed character will be on hand to welcome kids and families to the second floor.

Fairfield University student athletes will read from a variety of Dr. Seuss story books and kids can make their very own hat. Participants may also enter a free raffle with a chance to win The Cat in the Hat Floor Puzzle from Random House or a gift card to Magic Beans of Fairfield.

Every year, the National Education Association (NEA) celebrates the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss, with a reading motivation and awareness program called Read Across America. This program calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading.

NEA’s Read Across America was launched March 2, 1998, and was the largest celebration of reading this country has ever seen. Research has shown that motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong readers.

A selection of Dr. Seuss books will be available for purchase at the downtown bookstore Read Across America event. Parents may reserve their child’s spot by calling 203-255-7756, ext. 501, or emailing FairfieldUBookstoreEvents@gmail.com. This event is free and open to the public.
