Each day’s workshop will allow young artists to experiment with professional grade art materials, explore masterworks through lively discussion, critique and art games and discover new techniques in creating mixed media art that promotes self-expression and celebrates the wonders of nature.
This popular summer program series is designed for those seeking a quality, creative experience for their child. Registrants can enroll for the week, or by the day(s).
ArtSmart! Adventure — Illustration Inspiration, ages 6-10, June 30-July 2; 9 a.m.-noon; $43/day or $129/3 day week.
This workshop week will allow children to make connections between masterworks and the beautiful art found between the pages of their favorite books. Inspired by both nature-themed children’s literature and the work of children’s book illustrators, young artists will create expressive works in a variety of mixed media, including watercolor, acrylic on canvas, India ink, pastel, printmaking, paper collage, decoupage and mosaic.
ArtSmart! Discovery — The Magic Garden, ages 7-12, July 7-11; 9 a.m.-noon; $43/day or $215/5 day week.
A workshop week filled with fine art and crafting inspired by the garden. Projects include a farmer’s market, still life, impressionist landscape, floral abstractions, trees of life, pop art insects ... with crafting favorites such mosaic garden stones, painted flower pots, garden fairies/gnomes and more.
ArtSmart! Explorers — Design in Nature, ages 8-14, Aug. 4-8; 9 a.m.-noon; $43/day or $215/5 day week.
A week of fine art and cool crafting designed to encourage the exploration of design found in the natural world. Individual interpretation will be encouraged through expressive mixed media projects with emphasis on abstraction. Artists will examine natural specimens and use photo reference and masterworks as inspiration for their works of art. Projects include “Earth from Above” landscapes, Sumi-E botanicals, animal abstractions, textured tiles, paper collage and a new approach to action painting — Dripped Designs. Crafts will include a nature assemblage, block printed decor and wire/plaster sculpture.
