This week, as many students, current and former, recognize the special teachers in their lives during Teacher Appreciation Week, they can go a step further and nominate a Trumbull Public Schools Teacher of the Year.

The district is seeking nominations from the community for its 2016 Teacher of the Year.

The purpose of the Teacher of the Year program is to recognize and honor teacher excellence, according to Trumbull Public Schools. It does not attempt to select the “best” teacher but rather to identify one teacher to serve as a visible and vocal representative of what is best in the profession.

The program celebrates excellence in teaching by recognizing teachers who have inspired a love for learning in their students and who have distinguished themselves in the profession.

Nomination forms can be found in the main office of each school, or can be downloaded at trumbullps.org, under Teacher of the Year, “TOY Nomination Form.” Nominations must be completed and returned to the appropriate school by May 18.
