The North Stratfield School Drama Troupe is presenting its seventh annual musical production, The Littlest Mermaid, at Fairfield Warde High School on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 and 8, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 each and are available in advance and in a more limited number at the door.

Set in Cheddar Bay, the Lobsta men and the Mermaid Sisters sing their way to a record contract. But first, they have to deal with a very jealous fish. The Littlest Mermaid production features a cast of 83 North Stratfield students in second through fifth grades.

Parents of each child are involved in all aspects of the production, from building sets and organizing costumes to selling tickets and creating programs. They are led by a committee comprised of North Stratfield parents Susan Buck, Dina Sullivan and Jennifer Rosenberg, and sponsored by the NSS PTA.

The production is directed and choreographed by Maria Verderber, a professional actress (stage name Maria Vee) and a veteran of the Downtown Cabaret Theatre Children’s Company. She first appeared as Lucy in Dracula in 1998. Other roles include Heidi, The Dish, Mrs. Pots & Pans, and several queens, including Queen Anne in The Knight Before Christmas and Queen Frostine in Candyland.

Back for her fifth season at North Stratfield, Verderber teaches and directs drama in local schools.
