It’s high school graduation season in Trumbull, as some students have already thrown their caps in the air, while other local schools prepare to say farewell to the graduating class.

Last weekend St. Joseph High School seniors graduated. This Saturday, Christian Heritage School will hold its commencement ceremony. Trumbull High School released more details this week on its Friday, June 20, graduation.

Last Saturday a total of 195 seniors at St. Joseph High School graduated under the sun, at Dalling Field.

The Most Rev. Frank J. Caggiano, bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, came to congratulate the class of 2014, along with Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, A.S.C.J., Ed.D, superintendent of schools, Diocese of Bridgeport, and Trumbull’s First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst.

Marina Spinelli was named the valedictorian for the class of 2014. Spinelli has attained the highest academic record among this very competitive class, and delivered the valedictorian’s farewell address at the close of the commencement exercises at graduation on Saturday. The daughter of Vito and Elizabeth Spinelli of Shelton, she came to St. Joseph High School from Shelton Intermediate. She will be heading to Harvard in the fall.

Tiffany Marini has compiled the second highest academic average in her class and is so named salutatorian. Marini opened the 2014 commencement exercises at the Senior Class Awards Ceremony on May 28. Marini is a graduate of St. Jude School in Monroe and resident of Monroe with her parents John and Lucy Marini. She will be attending Providence College.

Trumbull High

Trumbull High School Principal Marc Guarino announced this week that the commencement exercises for the Trumbull High School class of 2014 will take place on Friday, June 20, at 4:45 p.m., in McDougall Stadium. Exercises will be moved to the gymnasium in the event of severe weather conditions.

The class valedictorian this year is Maneesh Koneru, and Maxwell Wu is salutatorian.

Maneesh Koneru is the son of Raja and Krishna Koneru. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. As a participant in the Chemistry Olympics, he placed in the top 10. He also participated in Knowledge Masters and received numerous state championships and won six Top-10 National finishes. He is a member of the Academic Decathlon and garnered second place in the state competition. He was a contributing member to the school newspaper, covering sports. Koneru played on the varsity tennis team.

He is the recipient of many awards, including an Excellence in Math/Science Award from Fairfield University & Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. He was selected as the Outstanding Junior in grade 11. He received The Columbia Book Award and is a National Merit Scholarship finalist. Koneru was also the senior finalist for the Connecticut Association of Schools Governor’s Scholar Award.

He volunteered at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, as well as at Yale New Haven Hospital. He also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Manor in Trumbull, an assisted living facility. He also contributed his time to the Trumbull Library and served as a peer tutor in math and science.

He plans on attending the University of Connecticut in the fall, majoring in pre-med.

Maxwell Wu is the son of Terence and Ann Wu. He is a member of the Fed Challenge Program, which competes in New York City and deals with economic issues. He is a member of the Forensic Science Team, Robotics Club, Spanish Club, and Knowledge Masters.

Wul also participates in Men’s Ensemble and Jazz Band. He sings in the Regional Choir and was accepted as part of the All State Choir his senior year. His awards include vice president of the Music Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, as well as the National Honor Society.

He plans on attending the University of Michigan, with a major in engineering.
