Trumbull student Julian Shively, will be a soloist performing in the Neighborhood Music School’s Greater New Haven Youth Ensembles Spring Concert on Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m., at Yale’s Battell Chapel on College St. in New Haven.

As a member of the NMS Concert Orchestra, Julian will be the featured piano soloist, performing Chopin’s “Concerto No. 2, Op. 21 for Piano and Orchestra.” He started playing piano at the age of four and has been studying at NMS with Erika Schroth for the past five years. He is12-years-old and is in 7th grade at Hillcrest Middle School. He practices his piano 45 minutes a day and also plays the cello and dabbles on the electric guitar, keyboard and improvisation. He loves playing with electronics and making videos.

He has won several awards for his piano playing, including Schubert Club awards, Connecticut State Music Teachers Association competitions, the International Concert Alliance’s Young People’s Piano Competition, the NMS Performance Award, the Renée B. Fisher Competition for Young Pianists in the elementary/middle school division, as well earning a “gold rating” at the Young Musician’s Festival for seven consecutive years.

Concert tickets are available at the door and cost $10 for adults; $5 for seniors and children age 12 and under.
