Students and staff at Daniels Farm Elementary School participated in their fall One School, One Book kick-off event on Thursday, Oct. 10. The event began with Principal Gary Kunschaft, dressed as a knight, introducing this fall’s book Kenny and the Dragon, by Peter DiTerlizzi. He enticed students as he briefly introduced the book’s characters, Kenny, the rabbit, Grahame, the reluctant dragon, and St. George the fearless knight.

Following Kunschaft’s introduction, fifth grade students and various staff members broke out in a flash mob generating further excitement throughout the school’s auditorium.

The students and staff will read Kenny and the Dragon together each night throughout the month of October. School-wide activities, such as daily trivia, and a design your own dragon activity will be incorporated throughout the month for the entire school community.

This year Daniels Farm School has also partnered with Edison Elementary School in Bridgeport to extend the reach of the One School, One Book program. Thanks to corporate sponsor Pediatric Healthcare Associates, and the families at Daniels Farm School, Edison Elementary School will now have the resources to conduct their own One School, One Book experience. Following their completion of Kenny and the Dragon, Daniels Farm School students will be creating bookmarks to accompany their copies of Kenny and the Dragon, which will be delivered to Edison Elementary School in November. The schools hope to use this partnership to further promote a culture of literacy within their communities.
