Providence College — Maria Serna, , class of 2016, began the spring semester by participating in the second annual MLK Day of Service on Jan. 19 and 20, celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Serna, along with 20 PC students and staff, spent part of their time training and reflecting on service and human dignity, listening to guest speaker Sal Monteiro, assistant director of training at the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence in Providence. The following day, they rehabilitated a housing unit in the Smith Hill neighborhood, as well as cleaned up a few empty lots.
