Long Hill United Methodist Church introduces new pastor

One of Trumbull’s oldest churches now has a new spiritual leader. Pastor Edward Dayton took over at Long Hill United Methodist Church on July 1, and the congregation is excited about some of the many positive changes he plans to bring to re-energize the church. “I’m delighted to be coming to Trumbull and to serve in such a warm and caring church with so much history as a beacon of faith,” he said. “I can’t wait to get started and help grow this church.” Pastor Dayton is an Air Force veteran, serving on active duty and as a reservist for 13 years. He has also been extremely active in the field of Emergency Medical Service, spending 20 years as a very active volunteer EMT and leader. Over the past 32 years, Pastor Dayton’s secular career has been spent with a major manufacturing firm based in Danbury. Trained as an electrical engineer, he’s now the marketing manager. His positions have allowed him extensive international travel, something which has re-kindled his passion for mission and social justice. As a result of that, Pastor Dayton finally answered his call to the ministry in 2010 and in the years since has served as co-pastor at a six church cooperative ministry in Westchester and Dutchess Counties in New York. The new leader of Long Hill United Methodist Church is currently furthering his studies by attending a course of study at Wesley Seminary in Washington D.C. Additionally, Pastor Dayton is also well known for his skillful preaching style and his love to guide the church’s youngest disciples on their journey. He lives in Danbury with his wife of 42 years, Patty, who’s another active Methodist. She’s already joined the beloved Long Hill UMC choir. Also at home are three very talkative parrots, “mouser extraordinaire” Jonah, and their Springer Spaniel, Emma. The Daytons have four grown children and are blessed with nine grandchildren. Long Hill United Methodist Church is located at 6358 Main Street in Trumbull with weekly worship services Sundays at 1o am, along with Sunday school classes at the same time. Pastor Pastor Dayton invites all to visit the, “little stone church with the big heart.”
