Women's Fellowship Covered Dish Luncheon

On Thursday, Oct. 15, Women's Fellowship of Unity Hill United Church of Christ, 364 White Plains Road, will kick-off the fall season with a covered dish luncheon at noon. Featured speaker will be renowned quilter, Lana Pantane. Hostesses are Florence Brezina and Elizabeth Vida. Devotions will be led by Carole Fanslow. Spaghetti supper and concert series

Long Hill United Methodist Church, 6358 Main St., will hold their spaghetti and meatball dinner with salad, bread, beverages and dessert for $12, (less for children and seniors), on Saturday, Oct. 17. The free concert will feature an evening of cool jazz from the Masters, the Movies and beyond with the Bob Kolb Jazz Quartet at 7 p.m. Call 203-954-9691 for information.

Book signing and presentation

This year marks the observances of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Author and photographer Matthew Karanian will provide a PowerPoint-based presentation and discuss his groundbreaking new book Historic Armenia After 100 Years: Ani, Kars & the Six Provinces of Western Armenia.  His book, and the presentation are a product of several years of research and photography. Books will be available for purchase and signed by the author. The presentation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18 at the Agahigian-Sherinian church hall at Armenian Church of the Holy Ascension, 1460 Huntington Tpke.  Refreshments will be served at about 11:30 a.m. and the presentation will start at about noon and last about an hour. Breakfast and artists

Holy Cross Lutheran, in the Froehlich Fellowship Hall, will host guest speaker Jen Marr and Club Comfort, with special guests, K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry, therapy dogs on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Open to the public with a suggested donation of $10.  Tickets will go on sale between services Oct. 11.  For advance tickets, to reserve a table, or for more information, contact Cindy Ciccia at 203-395-3404 or

Food drives

The Sisterhood of Congregation B’nai Torah, Trumbull will be coordinating a food drive on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Stop and Shop on Quality St., to benefit the Trumbull Food Bank and Jewish Family Services and at the Monroe Stop and Shop, 470 Monroe Tpke., to benefit the Monroe Food Pantry as well as Jewish Family Services.  The need is greater than ever as every month more families are in need of assistance.  Lists will be available of most needed items, however any donations of non-perishable food items or paper goods such as napkins, tissues or toilet paper would be most appreciated.  For more information, call 203-268-6940.
