Free Shred It day

A free document shredding event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 1-4 p.m., in the parking lot of Calvary Church, 498 White Plains Road. The event is for anyone in the Trumbull area wanting to safely discard old files, tax returns and other private documents.

While there is no charge for the shredding, we do ask that you bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Trumbull Food Pantry. We will also be collecting returnable empty bottles and cans for recycling (proceeds will go to the Trumbull Food Pantry).

The document shredding is a free service, sponsored by Calvary Church.

Fall Dinner and Bingo Night

The Fall Dinner and Bingo Night will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Road, on Saturday, Oct. 19, with dinner beginning at 6 p.m., and Bingo at 7:15. Donation is $15 for adult and $10 for children 10 and under. Payment due when reserving. Includes dinner (1/2 chicken, 1/4 chicken for children, mashed potatoes, carrots, dessert & beverages), AND bingo cards for all 12 regular games. Reservations are suggested; limited seating. Magic show and pasta dinner

Magically Motivated by Ted magic show, sponsored by Congregation B’nai Torah, 5700 Main St., will be on Sunday, Oct, 20, at 5 p.m. Following this professional magician, a pasta dinner will be served. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost for the show and dinner combined is $9 per child (ages 3 -13), $18 per adult with a family maximum of $54. CROP Hunger Walk meeting

There will be a CROP Hunger Walk meeting on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m., at Unity Hill United Church of Christ, 364 White Plains Road. Committee members will gather to make plans for the 40th anniversary of the Greater Bridgeport CROP Hunger Walk taking place on Sunday, May 4, 2014. Questions, call 203-375-1284.

Covered dish luncheon

The Women’s Fellowship of Unity Hill United Church of Christ, 364 White Plains Road, will gather on Thursday, Oct. 24 at noon for a covered dish luncheon at the church. Church Bazaar

St. George Orthodox Church, 5490 Main St., is hosting it’s annual Church Bazaar, on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. The event features ethnic dishes, home baked goods, arts and crafts, attic treasures, and Chinese auction raffle. Fall dinner and program

Trunk or Treat

On Thursday, Oct. 31, (rain or shine), Calvary Church, 498 White Plains Road, is hosting its 8th annual Trunk or Treat. This is a safe and fun event for families to go “trick-or-treating” on Halloween. When you and your child arrive, you will see themed cars along with people in costume at each car who are ready to give out candy. Join us from 5-8 p.m., (come and go when you please). Taste of Slovakia

A Taste of Slovakia, sponsored by the Altar Guild of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Road, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. Menu is kielbasa and sauerkraut, potato pancakes, pirohi, halushki with cabbage, beverages and dessert. Book fair — B’nai Torah Nursery School, 5700 Main St., is sponsoring a Judaic and Secular Book Fair with books for all ages: preschool through adult. Art auction and beer and wine tasting — Sponsored by Congregation B’nai Torah, 5700 Main St., on Sunday, Nov. 17. The professional auction company, Marlin Art will conduct the event with a preview at 6:30 p.m. The Beer and Wine Tasting, provided by Town Line, 345 Hawley Lane in Stratford, will also begin at 6:30 p.m., as will numerous raffles. A live auction will follow at 7:30, featuring art in all media and price ranges. Major credit cards accepted for purchases. Admission is $10 /$18 for two and includes refreshments, dessert and coffee. Each ticket purchased in advance will also receive two free raffle tickets.
