Devlin: You can count on me

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as State Representative for the 134th District. I am running for re-election because I care about our local community and I care about our state.

In the two years I have served as your state representative, I have championed education initiatives, promoted job opportunity, worked to preserve the environment, helped craft legislation to combat opioid abuse, and supported the health of our firefighters, women and families. I work hard for you and I pledge to continue.

I am proud to have earned 100% voting record for both legislative sessions. When it comes to voting, the fact is, most legislation is passed with bi-partisan agreement. Out of all of the votes I cast, the majority of them (88%), are cast in agreement with the majority. Where we disagree is the 13% of legislation that centers largely on the budget and other related bills that determine how your hard earned tax money is spent and direct the economic priorities of our state.

Over the past many months, I have knocked on thousands of doors and made hundreds of phone calls to hear directly from you what you believe are the most important issues facing our state. I want to know, serving as your voice in Hartford, what your priorities are. Your feedback has centered on three core themes – taxes and affordability, jobs and the economy and addressing our transportation infrastructure. I couldn’t agree with you more.

You can count on me to continue to be a leading voice and advocate for ending the tax and spend policies that are crippling our state.

I believe we must return to common sense budgeting and spending at the state level like we have to do at home - spend no more than you make and borrow only what you can afford to pay back (www.fiveyearbudget.com).

It’s time to stop pushing companies away and time to start helping companies choose Connecticut by lowering the cost of doing business. I support reducing or eliminating job killing business taxes and unnecessary regulations. When we encourage companies to come, stay and grow – they’ll create jobs, contribute revenue and help turn our economy around.

For people and businesses to choose Connecticut, we need to invest in reliable rail and highway transportation infrastructure – and we can do it without raising taxes or imposing tolls.

I know we can do better and that’s why I am committed to continuing my work for you in Hartford to address these issues and return Connecticut to the great state it once was.

I’m proud to have the endorsements of the Independent Party of Connecticut, the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the Connecticut Realtors, the Association of Retired Teachers and the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters. In addition, I have signed the “no tax increase pledge.”

Most importantly, I hope I’ve earned your vote on November 8.
