During the August 9 primary, a fire alarm at Hillcrest Middle School in Trumbull forced poll workers to move operations outside, but the voting went on. Thanks to the quick reactions of the District 1 poll workers, the election kept going without a hitch.
The poll workers moved the election outside, checking in voters, distributing ballots and even making sure the ballot box and tabulator were both on hand to assure that not a vote was lost during the emergency.
