UPDATE May 22 12:52 pm Former Trumbull Board of Education Chairman Stephen Wright has been re-arrested on DUI and failure to appear in court charges. Wright, who was arrested four times for DUI between February 22 and April 10, had been ordered re-arrested after not showing up for one of his court dates April 20. According to the Judicial Department Website, Wright posted a $25,000 cash bond after New Haven police arrested him on the failure to appear charge. He is due back in court May 9 appearing on the Norwalk and Bridgeport courthouse dockets. Wright was arrested Feb. 22 by Norwalk police, Feb. 27 by Shelton police, March 17 by State Police, and April 10 by Stratford police. He was released twice on promises to appear, and also posted bonds of $500 and $1,000 on two of the arrests. In his April 10 arrest, Wright also was charged with driving while his license was suspended due to his prior drunk driving arrests. Trumbull police had planned to take Wright into custody at a meeting of the town's Ethics Commission Wednesday, but he did not show. Wright\u2019s cases are pending in Norwalk, Bridgeport and Derby. His next court date is May 9 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport. Wright, an attorney, was chairman of the Trumbull Board of Education from 2004-2012. He is currently serving his second term on the State Board of Education. In a written statement, First Selectman Tim Herbst called the arrests "incredibly troubling." Full text of statement: Mr. Wright has given many years of service to the Town of Trumbull and to the State Board of Education.\u00a0 Politics aside, I am genuinely and intensely concerned for his health and well-being and stand ready to assist him in getting the necessary help he might require to tackle any personal issues.\u00a0 As First Selectman, the safety of the people of Trumbull is of paramount importance to me.\u00a0 \u00a0I do not want anyone behind the wheel of a car or on the road who currently has a suspended license.\u00a0 Four DUI\u2019s in a period of six weeks is incredibly troubling and alarming.\u00a0 I hope and pray that Mr. Wright will turn himself in so no one, including Mr. Wright, gets hurt.
