Women’s jewelry store robbed inside Westfield Trumbull Mall

Trumbull police are searching for a 30-year-old African American male who is suspected of robbing Icing, a women’s jewelry store, at the Westfield Trumbull Mall around 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20.

Lt. Leonard Scinto said the incident was reported as an armed robbery but he had “no confirmation” that the suspect did in fact have a gun.

According to a press release, the man entered the store wearing a blue sweatshirt and sunglasses and "approached an employee and raised the waist area of his sweatshirt revealing what the employee described as possibly a gun in a holster."

"The suspect told the employee to open the register however she replied she was unable to without a sale," Lt. Scinto said. "The suspect instructed the employee to go in to the back room which she did."

The robber exited the store, the report said, and responding officers and a Trumbull police K9 unit were unable to locate him in the mall.

Scinto said the suspect was described as being five feet and eight inches tall with a medium build.

It is undetermined if the suspect took any merchandise before exiting the store.

Mall officials have not confirmed whether anyone inside the store was held at gunpoint.
