UPDATE – Remains found identified as missing college student

SATURDAY, 10 a.m. — State Police have confirmed the body found near Quarry Road Friday has been identified as missing Eastern Connecticut student Alyssiah Wiley. Wiley, 20, had been missing since April 20.

The identity was made by the Connecticut State Forensic Lab in Meriden using DNA. State Police Eastern District and Western District Major Crime Squads are continuing the criminal investigation.

State Police said the Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner will conduct a postmortem examination to determine the manner and cause of death.

On Friday, State Troopers assigned to K-9 duty were conducting a search in Trumbull in a wooded area off of Quarry Road.  Both search and rescue and cadaver dogs were being utilized in this search.  At approximately 10:00 a.m. Friday  a cadaver dog alerted on what appears to be human remains.

The scene was secured by Troopers assisted by Trumbull Police. Additional State Police Cadaver K-9 teams have continued to search the area, according to State Police.

State Police Western District Major Crime Squad Detectives responded to the scene to initiate a criminal investigation.

FRIDAY: State and Trumbull police have blocked Quarry Road as they continue to investigate a body found in the woods about 100 yards from the Bow Tie theater across the street. Activity seems to be centered on a remote section of parking lot. There are now more than 20 police vehicles on scene, including a crime van and at least seven State Police cruisers.

The woman's body, which reports say may be that of missing college student Alyssiah Wiley, was apparently found in the woods on dry land, though divers searched the nearby pond for the past two days.

State and Trumbull police continue to arrive and police dogs and handlers are currently working the site.

Private security officers are maintaining a perimeter around nearby businesses, keeping reporters at a distance. Some employees are asking police what is going on, but getting no response.

ORIGINAL POST: A body has been discovered on the Trumbull/Bridgeport line, according to several news organizations.

State Police are on the scene of Quarry Road after a body was reportedly found in the wooded area there.

Yesterday, divers searched Bunnell Pond near Beardsley Park, which is close to the area of where the body was found.
