Trumbull police officers RJ Carlson and Gregory Lee along with their Trumbull police K9s Cyrus and Storm began national certified-level classes in November and completed their training on Feb. 12.

And thanks to the hard work, the officers and the K9s have received both national and State of Connecticut certifications in building searches, evidence recovery, criminal apprehension, rural and urban tracking, and advanced tactical operations, as well as a certification in narcotics and detection.

Officers were required to meet proficiency standards throughout the training, which continues with refresher training on a monthly basis.

The specialized training has already produced results — in two separate incidents in 2016, drugs were detected by both K9s.
