Trumbull man playing hero responsible for burglary, police say

A Trumbull man who said he confronted burglars leaving the BP Gas Station Sunday night, was actually the one behind the crime, according to police.

Darren Klein, 26, reported driving by the gas station, at 5771 Main St.,  just before midnight and seeing a broken window. Klein told police he pulled into the station and three males exited, carrying and dropping some lottery tickets as they fled in different directions.

Police said Klein’s story contained several inconsistencies and further investigation allegedly implicated him in the burglary. He was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, making a false statement and interfering with police.
