A Trumbull resident, who is a teacher and coach in Bridgeport was arrested last Friday, after his son ran to a neighbor’s house, looking for help.

Police said Charles D. Clemons, 40, of 75 Ironwood Road, let his young son son home alone last Friday morning, so he could go to the gym to workout. Clemons is the head basketball coach for Harding High School in Bridgeport and also a fifth grade teacher at Hall School in Bridgeport.

His four year-old son reportedly ran to a neighbor’s house around 7:30 a.m., wearing pajamas and telling the neighbors his house was on fire. The police and fire department responded and determined there was no fire, but the house alarm was going off.

The child gave the neighbor his father’s phone number and they were able to reach Clemons and tell him what happened. When Clemons arrived on the scene he told police he had left his son to go the gym and had set the alarm and locked the door before leaving.

Clemons was charged with risk of injury to a minor, a felony. He was released on a promise to appear in court Sept. 30.

The incident was reported to the Department of Children and Families.
