Six people transported to hospital after Corporate Drive chemical spill
Trumbull EMS and fire crews from Long Hill, Trumbull Center, and Nichols responded to a small chemical spill inside a Corporate Drive dentist office around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5.
First responders evaluated 15 people on the scene and transported six of them to local hospitals as a precaution, according to Deputy Chief Alex Rauso Jr. of the Long Hill Fire Department.
"Approximately an ounce of Formocresol spilled causing a strong odor," said Rauso, who serves as the department's public information officer. "This product is a disinfectant solution used as part of endodontic treatment."
The fire departments consulted with the state's department of energy and environmental protection and Fairfield County Hazardous Incident Response Team.
The crews ventilated the space, Rauso said, and the employees were able to re-occupy the building.
